I won't pretend as if I'm a wonderful blogger, since it is appearant that I am NOT! I did however commit to myself to begin blogging MORE. Since my last post, it's been rather eventful, I did the Urban Session and got some great shots of 5 awesome girls! The day after, I did a Senior Rep session with Marissa from Spanaway Lake High School (Class of 2012) Those will also be posted on the Blog soon too!

Then I had a whole week of downtime. I mean literally DOWN. Sitting at a 30 degree angle. I had sinus surgery last week, so that allowed me time to edit, time to fall asleep with my laptop on my lap, and time to work on new things being offered by AP&D. Namely... The Photo Fun Booth!

That is what I really wanted to blog about is the Fun Booth. It started out as just an idea. My husband had seen something similar, and was like "I can do that....Honey, we should do this!" So as a fundraiser for a senior rep, we did a little one. A friend saw photos, and she wanted it for her daughters birthday party. This month I have two booked in one weekend, and then the big event (our daughters 8th grade graduation dance) I am SO excited that this is growing into it's own animal. We are getting printers (tomorrow hopefully). Still trying to decide which printers to get. Thinking about a tent, so we can to photo booths outside, we have special business cards for the fun booth, and a cool banner too! So, the Holiday's are winding down, and we come upon a new year. I've been busy. Did I mention I'm not a good blogger? Ok, well here I am, and I know it's been a while!

This last month and a half, I've had a couple of photo shoots for Christmas Gifts...a photo book order, a few greeting card orders, worked in the Santa Booth at Victorian Country Christmas (not as photographer, but using my eye for cropping and printing pictures), and I've done a few DVD Slideshows! What a fun day! I met with 2 families today for a photo shoot at Bradley Lake Park. This was such a great place! Thank God that it was a nice day, I really started to worry after the horrible rain yesterday. The photos turned out great, haven't had a chance to do any post processing yet, but will be starting that in the morning. I am so excited, and wish I could post photos for everybody to check out. So my husband woke me from a dead sleep and said "Honey I know you don't like taking pictures of the sky, but you've gotta come see the sunrise and the clouds!" (don't get me wrong, I do like taking pictures of the sky if they are cool, but sometimes they all start looking the same) So I appease him, and my groggy self gets out of bed and grabs the camera and stumbles outside. I was shocked...WOW, this really was beautiful. I don't even think the pictures grab the true beauty, but here is a couple! I really love the view from my front door.

I had lots of fun yesterday shooting my neighbor Danielle's Senior Photos! When I woke up, the weather was beautiful, and as the day progressed it got worse. I prayed it held out until after our shoot. Especially since Danielle cleaned her horses just for the shoot. I had to wait til 3 when she got home from school. As I saw the overcast I thought 'this is PERFECT' as long as it doesn't rain. When she was ready, she called and I walked down to her house. Lots of fun with her horses and dogs who didn't want to cooperate like she did! I said that's what it's all about, capturing the moments as they are...dogs rolling around and all. Just after the shoot, I walked home...and within 20 minutes it POURED! Thank you God for listening to my request. :)

My family took a trip to the fair last week. We always go on a weekday so we can get the dizzy passes for the rides. It has become a tradition that my husband and I go during the day to look around at the exhibits. When the kids get out of school, we come home and get them and go back to get our Dizzy passes and ride the rides for the rest of the evening. Of course we have to get all the classic fair food... Krusty Pup corn dogs, corn on the cob, elephant ears and of course scones! I didn't have alot of time for picture taking, because we were having so much fun on the rides...but here are a few.

I was just sitting there yesterday working at my computer, it had been really dark and dreary, then all of a sudden out of the corner of my eye I saw brightness. The clouds broke and the Sun was shining so bright down on the field. I thought to myself...'I wonder if there's a rainbow out there' I jumped up, opened the front door and couldn't change the lens on my camera fast enough! (I had my zoom lens attached) This is what I saw...a beautiful Double Rainbow! Well, it was pouring so I stayed on my front porch and didn't venture to get back and get a view of the entire rainbow...but I wish I would have.

So today I am pretty excited! I try to be enrolled in a class at all times. This pushes me to get out there and get creative. My last course was developing your creative artistic vision...and it was awesome. Well, with Better Photo (who I've taken courses through) there is a monthly photo contest. What the heck I thought... So I submitted a photo. There is something about this photo that I love, hopefully someone else will too. That was two days ago. Today, I went online and for some reason clicked on that photo, and underneath it was a 'editors pick'. This is so exciting. When you enter a photo, first thing the judges go through and eliminate photos that don't work for them. Then they can go through and pick pictures that they find visually appealing. This means my entry moved from round 1 of the judging. Yeah! That was something to smile about for me. :)

Had a fun weekend, and today I went to the track to watch my Step Sister Monica race her bike. Took some pictures, but nothing to write home about. a) it takes practice getting pics of someone going 150mph or greater, b) I lack the proper equipment [a fast zoom lens] c) I just wasn't able to get a good spot optimal for shooting. I guess I'll leave that one for the guys who's primary profession is such, and they have probably invested thousands of dollars on a single lens for this purpose. The do a fantastic job! Afterwords, I went to Mom's house for dinner. We walked over to see her neighbor, and I got some fantastic flower shots in her yard. I also found this great bee hive! It was pretty cool looking, but I am very allergic to bees, so that was a little scary! I only walked over w/one lens, I should grabbed my zoom so I could get a better shot and stay far away. Well, the shot below is good enough. Funny, because 'good enough' is NEVER good enough for me...BUT IT WAS THIS TIME!

Natalee hasn't seen the camera much since June, so this past Wednesday when she came for her weekly visit, I decided it was time for a mini-photo session! Danica ~ Senior Class of 2010 - Western Washington Senior Portrait Photographer

So I haven't been so good about blogging. In fact, it's been nearly 3 months. Alot has gone on in that time, I've been fundraising for my youngest daughters Cheer, finished up a website, did baby portraits, shot a friends wedding reception, went out of town and got some great pictures, had my annual Luau, shot pictures at a friends annual party, and I will probably take time to catch everybody up on all of that. Right now I want to share my most recent photo shoot! Meet Danica... She is a Class of 2010 Senior. We had a great time! I arrived at 5pm, and to start we spent time at the house. She even talked Grandpa into letting her have some photo's done with his Classic T-Bird, as well as getting some shots in her Soccer gear! Then for the part of the shoot I was most excited about (and I think she was too) the Railroad Tracks! Danica posed in front of train cars, on the tracks and even climbed on the cars. That made her Dad nervous, and I have to admit I was too! To end the day, we headed to Lake Meridian just in time for Sunset. I've finally finished editing the photos, and can't wait to start working on the photo book! Thank you Danica, I hope you had as much fun as I did!

We took off about 7:30am Sunday morning and it was beautiful... It officially feels like summer to me getting out on the boat! Anne and Jeff like to wakeboard first thing in the morning, because the lake is like glass. We were one of only a few boats out on the water at that time. Sunday was a fun day! My first Senior Photo Shoot! This Princess met me at my house Sunday morning. From here, we went to the entrance of Tapps Island and took some shots and then over to the entrance of Quiet Water. After that it was back to my house to change outfits, (the night before was my brother's 30th bday and one of our friends stayed the night. He has an old car, and kindly allowed us to use it.) That was great, and she LOVED it, and the pictures turned out great. We then made way to a park downtown Sumner, and played like little kids. I can't wait to do more photo shoots at that park. I had a fun day with the Princess. She was a happy girl for Aunty Kristie! She is sure moving around alot now, so it was hard to get any posed shots. Dad's 60th Birthday

This is a little long, but I gotta tell the story of how perfect the day went! So we had Dad's 60th Birthday party at my house on Sunday. It was a surprise party, and everything worked out great! My family, my brothers family, Dad and Grandma all gathered at 1 for lunch. I made a pot roast...Dad likes meat and taters ya know! After grumbling about having to drive to Lake Tapps from Bothell, he enjoyed spending time with his family and was happy with his birthday meal. Everybody else was to arrive at 3, and I figured after the first person showed up, I would put out the appetizers and beverages. At 2:45 he just happened to go downstairs and the kids kept him busy in our newly finished theater room. PERFECT! So my brother took Grandma down stairs as well, (that was a sure way to keep him down there as he thought I was just up doing dishes!) Slowly people started to arrive, and I had them stand back in the family room so he wouldn't see them when he came up. When we were ready, the grandkids told Pa it was time to come up for cake. When he came up all he could see was me with my camera (not unusual) standing by the cake. Then he looked and saw all the guests. I couldn't believe how perfect it worked out, and how surprised and happy he was. He was just bummed "his bride" (My step-mom Patty) couldn't be there. Little did he know, she was coming later. Once again, he went downstairs, this time to show a friend our theater room. At this point Patty and two more friends arrived. We had the three of them stand over in the living room where the first guests stood, and once again the kids told Pa it was time for cake. Same as before, he came up and saw me with the camera. This time he didn't look over though (he thought everybody was already there) He walked up to the counter by the cake and got his "birthday song" started, at which point they joined him with his singing. He heard Patty's voice and looked over and I think he was shocked that we managed to surprise him once again. It was great to see that he was so happy to be surrounded by all of his good friends and family. Here are a few of the pics from the party.

I figured until I know what I want, something plain was better than nothing at all. I got 500 to start, so when I get them in, I will be passing them out. Some of you know I will be depending on you to spread them on. :) I will be offering an incentive for referrals!

Getting Started!

Well, this is the start of my blogging. Really just getting started with my business, and haven't really "advertised" yet. At this point, only a few people know what I have started. I will soon be unveiling my website to all! So most of you who know me, know that when I decide to do something I dive into it "head first". This has been no exception. I can't believe what I have accomplished in 1 month! Within a day after I decided that it was time to take my passion and make it a profession, I got my business license and got my website set up.

Within a few days after that, I convinced a couple of friends that they too needed websites. I changed the look of Jason's business website, and am waiting on him to get me some more current info so we can complete that! I am also in the process of working on another website. It is ready when my clients are. They just have some information to get me and they'll be set.

I purchased a new 2.8 lens, and that was very exciting to me. I have to tell you, I really love that lens! The day I recieved that lens, I went to do a soccer team photo shoot, and it was fun. It didn't go as I had planned, as it was an "outdoor" shoot, but since it had snowed that day, we moved into the gym. Ugh, the dreaded gym lighting. I felt horrible that I wasn't prepared for an indoor shoot, and didn't have lighting. Not to mention, due to the freezing cold weather, my speedlight wasn't wanting to recharge in a timely manner. Thank God for having that lens. That was my saving grace. The pics still didn't turn out how I would have liked...but then again maybe I am my own worst critic. My friend (the coach) thought they were just fine. Well, my goal was to do more natural light photography, but I recongnize that I need to be prepared for every situation. Two days later I purchased my lighting equipment. Well, there is lots more I want, but I feel I have what I need to do a great job.

Putting together pricing was my biggest hurdle. I wanted to be fair to myself, and I wanted to be reasonable for my clients. I now have several options available for my photo clients. It is hard to compete with places that do the quick in-studio "in and out" type of photography as far as pricing goes, but I am confident that people will appreciate the difference in my style and the ability to capture the true personality in each and every client I shoot, and recognize the value in that! I have still been working on my web design pricing, but it's all coming along.

We have also been working hard getting my office and studio ready. Talk about some major changes! We have pretty much taken everything out of the rec room downstairs, and it is going to be a great studio when Jason is done! The painting is complete, and he has finished the crown and trim. Now we just have to put that up. Then we're taking all the doors off, so he can get the new doors machined.

When I look back, I just can't believe how much I have accomplished in ONE MONTH! Well, this was a long first blog, but just wanted to get you all updated! I am now looking forward to being finished with the start up, and moving on to what I really love.
